Be Water - 4 Day Immersion
Chisenhale Dance Studio, Bethnal Green
1-4 May 2018 (for existing teachers of any style)
Im going to speak frankly and openly about our four day, ‘Be Water’ INTENSIVE FOR EXISTING YOGA TEACHERS as I think there is a lot of mystery surrounding what happens on our teacher trainings, in my workshops; and to be honest I can’t exactly explain it either.
Although I know what content we intend to deliver, if I knew exactly how the four days will pan out, then like every other course selling itself I’d give an hour by hour, day by day run down. That would appease the fears of most of us who are terrified of the unknown. It would also mean that pretty much regardless of the needs and energy of the group we would be delivering a certain content in a certain way.
That’s not how we work. Even on our year-long TT the students do not know, other than a vague outline, what we will be covering from week to week.
Our intensive course for existing teachers, like the full 200 hour teacher training, is organic, playful and explorative, able to adapt and change to whoever is present and whatever is needed. It is exactly the message that we are trying to deliver to those that attend and it is the skill that we want them to take away and apply to their own teaching.
We are expecting existing yoga teachers, who like us are disenchanted with the way that the majority of yoga classes are delivered. Who want to explore ways in which they can be equally organic, adaptive and importantly UNAFRAID TO EXPLORE.
To explore WHAT?
• Their own fears and limitations as a teacher
• What they would like to embody as a yoga facilitator and how they might go about doing that
• Different ways of holding space
• Methods to shake up their own practice and the practice of their students
• Alternative methods of using a standard studio space and the props available
• Working without yoga mats to open the space to new possibilities
• Incorporating new and unusual methods of moving, sequencing, breathwork and meditation
Dan will be bringing in elements of his own explorations and techniques:
• Effective breath-work that draws from Freediving, Wim Hof Method and Systema
• Meditation methods that he is developing and evolving, traditional methods from buddhism and how to develop your own bespoke methods
• How to inspire your students to trust themselves, their own bodies and take ownership of their practice just as you have!
He will be joined by the wonderful movers and teachers that are Jacob Smart and David Kam so that you can start to draw from the playful style, partner-work and games from:
• Movement practice
• Animal flow
• Parkour
• Dance
And add these to your sequencing and classes.
Our only intention is that you will have fun and laugh a lot (see photo below), become a happier, braver, more confident and adventurous teacher and continue the natural evolution of yoga as it should be! That much is certainly guaranteed
