Over the years we have had people travel to attend our course not only from across the UK but also from across Europe, some even flying in for each weekend so that they could attend! Thats what we call conviction!
At the same time we have had many potential students that have asked us for an online option, but until now we just didn't quite know how that would work. In some weird way it took a global pandemic for us to work that out.
What we could never quite get our heads around was how we could maintain the face to face connection that we find so important and how we could monitor your progression as a teacher and feedback to keep you always improving. Through the joy of online platforms such as zoom and the time that we have had in lockdown to film and upload the entire course, we are finally in a position to do just that.
Will I get contact time with the tutors?
This is one of the elements of a training that we believe is most important and it is why we have gathered such inspiring tutors together over the years.
Essentially our online course is, in every way possible, identical to our in person immersion. There are weekends to attend via zoom (Friday to Sunday) and after each weekend there will be a session with the relevant tutor to ask any questions that have arisen.
If you need even more flexibility and for example cant make a Friday because of work, every session is recorded and uploaded afterwards along with the discussions that arose. Alternatively you can watch the same pre-recorded session from an earlier year group in advance and then attend the sessions you can make.
Either way you will need to attend a separate mentoring session with the tutor afterwards to chase up any questions that you might have.
How Long does the Course Take?
The units are constantly rolling over the course of around ten months and you can drop into them and join the next scheduled weekend at any point. Due to the organic nature of the course it doesn't particularly matter what order you complete them in but there are some pre recorded sessions that we suggest you watch early on.
We recommend that the course takes approximately a 8 months to a year to complete. We have never been a quick fix and intensive training as we truly believe that to become a great teacher you need to let the knowledge and practice infuse slowly. Thats when lots of the really important questions will come up.
Can I start whenever I want to?
Yes, we have a rolling teaching schedule of the units which take place over approximately a year.
all of the course videos are online ready to view although we would expect to see you for at least half of the zoom sessions scheduled over the year
What materials will I need?
Would the course include practical Elements - How will I learn to teach?
In the same way that we assess the in person course, with a series of formative observations throughout the duration of the course (just under a year in length) and a summative observation at the end.
The formative observations allow us to assess and feedback to you throughout the year as you teach a variety of skills common to yoga such as breathwork, meditation, relaxation and physical movement. The formative assessments would ideally be observed in real time via zoom, with you teaching other online students in a zoom group. If you cant attend this then we can assess a recorded video of you teaching either a real life group or a zoom type group with friends or family present.
The summative observation is of a final long class, usually an hour in length. It would be observed in the same way as the formative assessment or by video submission with good and clear angles and audio of the teacher leading a group in person
Does the course include full Anatomy & Physiology training?
Yes, this would follow the same equivalent four days of anatomy and physiology as we cover with the normal in person students.
We also have a full online A&P exam that you will need to complete
What about other assessments?
Our primary aim is to make sure that we encourage confident and safe teachers.
The zoom meetings with the course tutors will help us to clear up any questions that you might have with each topic and we will also have a short worksheet for each unit to check that you have picked up on the most important points.
Because we do not believe that academic ability is any measure of a good yoga teacher, we are a very experiential course in nature and much of our focus is on the practical and safety skills of being a good teacher.
However for online students that we are unable to see in person, we are including an element of case studies where the student teacher provides us with feedback (either written or by recorded video) on a series of 5-10 sessions with a new yoga student - maybe a friend or family member.
In this students will be prompted to feedback (either written or via a recorded video) on such details as:

- feedback from the student(s) that they are teaching
You would also need to provide:
- a review of at least two of the resources on our resources page (books, podcasts, other online courses etc)
- a short essay on the history of yoga to put our current practice into historical context
- a reflective essay (or video piece) after the course has completed on your yoga journey so far and where they are headed
