This course contains the essence of the content from our popular two day 'Functional Breathwork' course. We only run it once or twice a year in London or Bristol and there are always many people that want to attend but cant make it along, so at last we decided to get all of the practices and resources in one place.
In truth, this course has been the culmination of a life exploring the breath. I suffered from asthma since the age of five and that has endured right through my life, so I have always been very aware of my breath, or more specifically the lack of it.
I suppose that I actually became very comfortable with not having enough breath as a child, there would be times that my dad had to carry me around the house because I couldn't talk or walk, maybe that is why I find myself so at home freediving and getting held underwater by bigger waves when surfing now?
There is certainly so much that we can learn about ourselves from simply observing the breath.
The average modern day human is beset by poor breathing habits related to posture, unaddressed stress and our artificial, man made environment. To accompany this we seem to have overcomplicated things, as is our way by developing an endless wealth of overcomplicated, dynamic and forceful breathing practices that really aren't necessary for 99% of people.
In fact we need to simplify the breath, to return it to its default setting typically found in babies. After all they breath as the human animal was designed to breathe - what went wrong?!
So by simply tweaking it with some very straightforward adjustments we can improve our overall health, mental wellbeing and physical performance too. With such methods I have personally overcome a lifetimes battle with sinus issues (probably asthma related) and have not had to take my prescribed rhinitis medication for several years now. You will also feel more energised, more able to cope with stress, sleep better and deeper and discover extra reserves when practising your chosen sports.
I have shared what I feel are the most useful practices from a wide range of schools from Taoism to Freediving; Russian Buteyko and Systema to Taoist Qi Gong Natural breathwork and everything in between. Take what works for you and leave the rest :)
