Common Sense Anatomy
for yoga asana

2-3 September 2017
Light centre Monument
With Lolo Lam and Dan Peppiatt
As a yoga teacher the chances are you will never need to know the names of every muscle and bone in the human body and what they do, but with just a little bit of common sense anyone can work out the major muscles involved in stabilising any posture and how to recruit these when we need them.

In this weekend workshop we split the postural practice of yoga up into separate families of poses and in each session we explore, in a very hands on and immersive fashion, the anatomy and physiology relevant to those postures. With enough time for you to investigate your own body and the bodies of others in various positions you will start to understand why it is so difficult to give any type of ‘one size fits all’ guidance for yoga asana.
2-3 September:
Delves into the foundation of all poses with a look at standing, sitting and kneeling postures; accompanied by an exploration of the hand, wrist, pelvis and knee joints we ask ourselves why it is important to create a solid grounding through these and why particular structural differences may not make every pose suitable for every individual. We also explore how to keep the weight bearing parts of our bodies safe, especially the hands and wrists, when we are using them in a repetitive fashion.

Price: £200 per weekend
